The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot – Review

50th Doctor anni

(This is spoiler free)

After yesterday’s scathing review of the Dr Who Live Afterparty, I wanted to write one more thing about the 50th anniversary of Dr Who that had a more positive feel. Now I could write about the fabulous episode itself ‘The Day of the Doctor’, but I think everyone is in agreement that that was fantastic. I would recommend Den of Geek for a succint review of that.

I wanted to talk about ‘The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot’. This was something that was mentioned on the Afterparty, but should have probably been shown straight after it, or indeed instead of it.

I ended up finding it on BBC iPlayer.  And let me tell you this is a proper treat. Written and directed by the 5th doctor Peter Davison, this a very funny Meta style parody / homage to Dr who and all things related to it. It stars Davison along with Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, but the cast holds a whole host of others in some way connected to Dr Who or the actors involved.

Those involved all take part in poking a bit of fun at themselves, in what is a must for anyone who even has a passing interest in Dr Who.

Peter Davidson wrote this in response to all the ‘who-ha’ surrounding whether the former or ‘Classic Doctors’ were going to be appearing in the 50th anniversary special. To tell you anymore of the plot and who makes guest appearances would only serve to ruin the enjoyment. Just trust me this is a clever witty half hour of fun that fits in the 50th Anniversary celebrations as much as ‘The day of the Doctor’ does.

This has been made to celebrate the endure love of the show and what a fun history it has.  But also, as the doctors say, ‘its for the fans.

Careful Dave Gorman will sue. Good stuff my friend. Love all the “who-ha”

This was great – although I would have had them stop off on the road-trip near a field of cows. Just because Peter Davidson likes to keep his hand in.
